Since September 2022, I've been dabbing into AI art, through Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and other mediums, to take my creativity to the next level.
Here is what I said at the time:
"At the end of the day, it's really up to what you make of it. It reminds me of the possibilites you have playing an open sandbox game, like Minecraft. You are in charge of the story, and the limits of the game are your own creative limitations".
I have to admit, that 2 years later, I still feel the same way about it. And while since its inception, AI has been gradually making its way into our daily lives, Chat GPT is now more popular than ever, to the point of rejection maybe, it's incredible to ponder that it has only been a few years, but we learned a lot on that subject ever since: Rapid Advancement in AI Capabilities:
The launch of Midjourney, ChatGPT, and other AI models has shown how quickly AI technology is advancing. AI has evolved from basic automation tools to highly sophisticated systems capable of generating creative content, engaging in nuanced conversations, and performing complex tasks. This demonstrates the exponential growth of AI capabilities and suggests that we are only scratching the surface of what AI can achieve.
AI as a Creative Tool:
The success of tools like Midjourney has shifted the perception of AI from being purely a technical utility to a creative collaborator. AI is now used by artists, writers, and designers to generate new ideas, enhance creativity, and push the boundaries of what’s possible in art and media. Mainstream Adoption and Normalization:
With the widespread use of ChatGPT and similar AI systems, society has started to normalize interactions with AI. It’s becoming common for people to rely on AI for everyday tasks, from writing assistance to customer service. This widespread adoption indicates that AI is no longer a niche technology but an integrated part of daily life, which raises questions about the future role of AI in society.

AI's Role in Education and Skill Development:

This has the potential to revolutionize education by making it more accessible and tailored to individual needs. However, it also requires a reevaluation of the skills we teach, emphasizing critical thinking and AI literacy.
As artists, we often find ourselves up against industry giants with endless resources, making it a constant battle to stand out and bring our visions to life. But with AI at our disposal, it feels like we finally have a team of creatives by our side, empowering us to push boundaries, explore new ideas, and compete on a level playing field. AI becomes our silent partner, helping us transform our imagination into reality, giving us the strength to take on these juggernauts and still maintain our unique voice.
Lately, I've been integrating AI into my creative process, and it's been a game-changer. For the cover of my latest album, Refilwe, I used AI to bring my vision to life, crafting an image that truly represents the essence of the music. The results were beyond anything I could have achieved on my own.
AI also played a crucial role in developing a brand style for Ed Privat. With AI's assistance, I was able to experiment with various design elements and quickly arrive at a cohesive visual identity that perfectly encapsulates the brand's personality.
I've always had a passion for storytelling, and with an idea for a comic book called Dead Punch, AI allowed me to finally see my story unfold. I could create a storyboard, bringing my characters and plot to life in a way that felt incredibly real and aligned with my vision.
For the three singles accompanying my latest music videos, I used AI-generated art, which I then animated using neural networks. This brought a unique, dynamic visual experience to each video, making the music come alive in a way that resonated deeply with the audience.
Lastly, I have an idea for a book, and thanks to AI, I was able to quickly lay out its foundation. What would have taken months of planning was accomplished in a fraction of the time, allowing me to focus more on the creative aspects of writing and less on the logistics.
While AI has undeniably made certain aspects of the creative process easier, even making us a bit lazier at times, its true value lies in the time it gives us back. In a world where time is one of the most precious commodities, AI allows us to streamline our work, freeing up hours that can be spent refining our craft, exploring new ideas, or simply enjoying life. It’s not just a tool—it’s a way to reclaim time, so we can focus on what truly matters. Life.
